About Us

-History

Mt. Pulaski Products was founded by Robert and Rosemary Steinfort in 1951. A small corncob processing facility was built inside the city limits of Mt. Pulaski, Illinois, and the company began with twelve employees. The business prospered, and a second plant was constructed in Lincoln, Illinois (our Skelton plant) in 1962. The company added a third facility in Eureka, Illinois that was in operation from 1964 through 1966. In 1964, Mt. Pulaski Products established a corncob processing facility at its current location on Route 121, outside the city limits of Mt. Pulaski.

After this plant began operations, the smaller plant within the city of Mt. Pulaski was shut down.
Robert and Rosemary Steinfort’s son, Scott Steinfort, joined the family business after earning his business degree from University of Illinois in 1969. In 1980, Scott and his wife, Kathryn, entered into a contract to purchase Mt. Pulaski Products from Scott’s parents. Soon after signing the purchase contract, Scott initiated substantial changes in the company’s procedures for purchasing raw corncobs and selling corncob grit products. As a result of these changes, Mt. Pulaski Products increased its profits by transitioning from high volume sales of low margin products to reduced volume sales of higher margin products.

In 1998, Mt. Pulaski Products formed a joint company, “B & C Pulaski Corporation, Limited”, with Betagro Group and York Sri Company Limited to manufacture corncob products at a facility in Thailand. Mt. Pulaski Products provided the equipment and technical expertise for the facility, and the equipment was set up and piloted in Illinois in 1999-2000 prior to being sent to Thailand. The plant has been operating in Thailand since 2001, and Mt. Pulaski Products provided technical support for this facility until 2006 when B &C Pulaski Corporation, Limited became a stand alone company.
